Sport and fun on the Baltic Sea island Rügen
Lots of sun, calm waves and white beaches make Germany’s biggest island an attractive holiday location where dreams become true. The healthy sea air attracts visitors year after year and many of our guests are regular visitors who have fallen in love with Rügen’s charm. You can spend your leisure time in many different ways. If you want to do more than just lie at the beach all day; no problem – sailing, horseback riding, surfing, golfing, hiking, sledding are only a few of the possibilities you have if you are looking for an activity packed holiday.
Visitors can also unleash their creativity during a paint and pottery course. If you are on a family holiday with children then the dinosaur park and the fun swimming pools are a great idea regardless of the weather. Many guests choose to enjoy a bicycle ride during their stay; the island can easily be explored by bike as Rügen is well equipped for cyclists. Even if you want to visit the neighboring island Hiddensee by boat you and your bicycle will be welcome! Breathtaking views and beautiful country side can also be explored by bike even if you are doing your own tour and want to enjoy Rügen’s remote places.
Getting around on the electronic bike
If you don’t feel like working out but want to be out and about, an electronic bike is a great option to spend your leisure time on Rügen. The entire island is equipped with rentals and recharge stations. This is a comfortable way to get to all places of interest without being tied to bus or train timetables. You can create your own travel itinerary and if you can’t say good bye to the sunset just yet you can simply stay a little longer. It is even easier if your holiday resort has a bike rental included in their facilities. The holiday resort Seepark Sellin offers the full service and the nearby Lake of Sellin is a popular destination for cyclists on Rügen. Rügen has a well-developed network of bicycle tracks that takes you anywhere you want; the beaches along the island are beautiful and each seaside resort has created different attractions with diverse offers for visitors to spend their leisure time on Rügen.
Anything that the family needs…
The whole family will be well looked after in a holiday apartment and from there this family-friendly island is yours to be discovered! The first thing children want to do is go for a swim in the sea and build castles in the white sand – grown-ups often find it hard to resist and attempt to become masters of the art themselves- artistic creations arise, decorated with seashells! On cooler days a walk along the beach may be enough and after that you will be looking for something else to do… No problem! Children will love the mini-golf course and the fun swimming pool at the Seepark Sellin. As a guest of the Seepark Sellin you pay a discounted rate to use the golf course and entrance into the swimming pool “Inselparadies” is free!
Sledging slope, roller coaster & a giant slide
The sledging slope in Bergen is open all year around and offers a fast ride on a slope which is more than 700 meters long – a fun option for your visit to Rügen. The slope record currently stands at 50 kilometers per hour – maybe you will be setting the next record?! Free parking is available right in front of the sledging slope.
The Roller coaster and giant slide are other favorites amongst children, if you would like to enjoy a ride on either one of them you should visit the “Rügenpark” in Gingst. There are lots of different attractions including a miniature landscape of Rügen to give you the bird’s eye view! You can also take an “international walk” passing Notre Dame, the Colosseum in Rome amongst other international landmarks which have been recreated here. Every Saturday families can avail of a discount.
Paddling and nature on Rügen
If you like water sports then Rügen is for you! Whether you are a surfer, sailor or diver – the water surrounding Rügen is just waiting to be explored! It is not only the Baltic Sea that is suitable for water sports. The lagoon with its calmer waters will appeal to you if you are interested in exploring the beautiful national park “Pomeranian lagoon” (Nationalpark vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft) by canoe, kayak or boat. There are also guided tours to Hiddensee and in the middle of the small island “Ummanz” is a canoe station. People who like nature can enjoy wind and waves during their stay on Rügen as well as the diverse flora and fauna of the island. Here you can be at one with nature, take part in guided herb walking tours and if you want to experience the “Robinson Crusoe-feeling” you can visit another small island; it is uninhabited and not many people know of it: island Vilm. Only 30 visitors are allowed on the island per day – a ranger guides the guests through this little world for three hours. Rügen has many surprises on offer and if you read up on the island in advance you will have a very interesting holiday.
